Plate 172:  Building a locomotive service yard, Part 38:  the "E.L.L.Y." columns have all been fastened to corner-brackets
(This plate added OCT 2003)

The five "E.L.L.Y." columns (see Plate 171) have all been fitted with corner brackets for permanent attachment to the baseboard. Every other column in this layout is also fitted with corner brackets in this manner, because corner brackets at the base of a column provide a means of making certain that the column is vertical.

Adjustment Method:

For example, if a column leans to the left, then the screws attaching the left bracket to the baseboard are loosened slightly, while the screws attaching the right bracket are tightened down. By this means, every column in the layout, regardless of height, is adjusted to stand perpendicular to the baseboard.
