Plate 135:  Building a locomotive service yard, Part 1: ordering the components
(This plate added OCT 2003)

Note: This plate begins the sequence of photos taken with the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-P92 digital still camera (see "Current Photography" in the "Photography Notes" section of the Introduction ).

In Plate 128 , a track schematic printed by the Hornby HVR2 software was shown.  Part numbers of various Hornby parts had been written on the schematic in red ink.  These part numbers eventually constituted part of an order to The Signal Box.

--more--
After the order was received and unpacked, all the contents were displayed on one of the photographer's backdrop boards. One of the items in this display was not part of the order: the little book near the lower left corner.  This is a book from the builder's personal library: "The Observer's Book of Railway Locomotives of Britain". The book is included in the display to remind us that the little switching locomotive, shown beneath its box in the upper left, is an historical model, the prototype of which is described in the book.  This little locomotive will be fully discussed in subsequent plates.

This order included all the items required for the construction of the locomotive service yard first proposed in Plate 92 and further discussed in Plates 123 to 127. Most of the items in this order will receive individual attention as they are introduced during the construction of the locomotive service yard.
