Plate 143:  Adding a souvenir mug to the collection, Part 29: trial-fitting the handle of the mug into the receptacle
(This plate added OCT 2004)

Here we see two views of the Silver Jubilee mug being trial-fitted into the receptacle of the presentation box's insert. The handle of the mug now lies fully within the half-inch deep recess that was created by the ogee-curved strip of boxboard shown in Plate 142.

Mug seen from the front, framed by the presentation side of the box-insert Mug seen from the back, showing the concealed side of the box-insert
The left-hand picture shows the Silver Jubilee mug protruding from the central cut-out of the insert for the presentation box. Observe that the mug's handle does not protrude above the surface of the insert. This means that slightly more than half the volume of the mug lies behind the insert, with the handle lying flush within the ogee-curved receptacle.

The right-hand picture shows how the mug will lie beneath the surface of the insert. The handle, which is slightly less than a half-inch thick, is fully accommodated by the half-inch width of the boxboard strip.
