Plate 71:  The "Flying Scotsman" running in reverse along the upper level
(This plate added SEP 2003)

This view shows the "Flying Scotsman" running in reverse along the upper level track at the north face of the layout. As construction progresses, the train is frequently run backwards and forwards at various speeds in order to test the mechanical fit and electrical conductivity of all the track on the layout.

Click here to see the "Flying Scotsman" in actual motion during a later stage of track construction. (WARNING: Clicking this link causes a download of a 6.3 megabyte file which will load very slowly on low-bandwidth connections.)
