Plate 64:  Tie paint
(This plate added SEP 2003)

Similar to Plate 63. The five ballasting tools listed in Plate 63 are again shown. In addition, a small bottle of Polly tie-brown paint can be seen behind the plastic spoon.

Before track is ballasted, the track ties (British usage: "sleepers") are painted flat brown. The original color of the molded plastic ties of the Hornby track is shiny black. When the ties are painted flat brown, they assume a more realistic appearance, especially after ballast is added. (See Plates 33 through 36 which show the color of real railroad ties).
