Plate 80:  Britains Farm set No. 147F, metal hollow-cast figures

Here we see a complete boxed set of hollow-cast metal farm figures from Britains Ltd., the famous British manufacturer of miniature figures. This set, consisting of two milk cows, two calves, and a farm girl with a feeding pail, is shown in the original packaging. This was set number 147F in the Britains Farm series. The phrase Britains Farm does not pertain to the British nation, but rather to the surname of the founder of Britains Ltd: Mr. William Britain. The figures in this set have never been removed from the display box. The original black twine that holds the five figures to the cardboard box liner has never been cut or untied. --more--

The box, as well as the box cover, which is seen in the foreground, is covered with glossy green paper. The box cover carries a full-color artist's conception of an English rural scene with the motto Britains Farm in blue. Boxed sets of military figures made by this company during the same period were covered in glossy red paper. This photo was taken with a 100-watt floodlamp in the key-light position and a 150-watt standard bulb in the fill-light position. Go to top of page
