A master switchboard is a computer screen that contains buttons and drop-down lists that can be clicked with a mouse. Clicking the appropriate buttons and list-items results in the appearance of various other screens, such as subsidiary switchboards, data-entry screens, printable reports, and images.

A properly designed database will automatically display the master switchboard screen whenever the database is first called up from the computer.
