Plate 138:  Building a locomotive service yard, Part 4:  access to the yard throat
(This plate added OCT 2003)

This picture extends the view shown in Plate 137, revealing how the embankment-level point introduced in Plate 92 provides access to the yard throat (entranceway) of the new locomotive service yard. The rough-cut roadbed for the yard is temporarily supported at the embankment level by cardboard boxes. Such temporary supports will remain in place during the extensive running tests which must precede the permanent installation of the roadbed.
