Plate 1:  A location for the photography of small displays where high-intensity lighting is required
(This plate added FEB 2004)

HE accompanying photo shows the location where small displays are photographed. By small display, we mean a display comprising a single item, such as a miniature figure or vehicle, or a small group of such items.

The photo shows the everyday use of this location, which consists of a cabinet-top supporting a dictionary, a houseplant holder, and a binding machine. When a photography session is scheduled, the dictionary, the houseplant holder, and the binding machine are temporarily removed, and a removable photographer's setting is placed upon the cabinet-top. The photographer's setting remains in place until the photography session is completed, then the original articles are replaced in their accustomed positions.

SUBJECT: Selected location for small displays as originally used

MEDIA: Sony MSA-64A Memory Stick at 1.2 megapixel resolution

EDITING: Adobe Photoshop
The set designer and the photographer have agreed that the best color for a removable setting for small displays is black, especially since the toys which will be placed into the setting are usually painted in bright colors.

The main reason that this location was selected for the photography of small displays is that small displays are best photographed when illuminated by high-intensity lighting. This particular location, which is normally lighted by an ordinary 60-watt incandescent bulb, can quickly be converted to precise directional illumination by a 100-watt floodlamp.
